Rose (Doerr) Lawson
December 24, 1929 ~ October 18, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old
Rose Doerr Lawson, 87, of Gillisonville, SC passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Brookdale Senior Living Center in Hilton Head, SC. She was born December 24, 1929 in Carmi, Illinois, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Julius and Helen Pfister Doerr.
Ms. Lawson grew up on a farm in Illinois, then lived for many years in the Lowcountry. She worked at the Piggly Wiggly on Ribaut Road in Beaufort, SC, and she and her husband, Ed, owned an Exxon gas station beside where Beaufort Memorial Hospital is now located. Ms. Lawson would change oil and gas up cars just like the guys! She was also a school bus driver, and her last job in the Beaufort area was as a bookkeeper for Coastal Contractors. She was a member of Gillisonville Baptist Church in Gillisonville, SC, loved to bake, sew, make quilts, and enjoyed many other pastimes. Rose and Ed retired and moved to Brookwood Drive in Varnville, SC, and had a little farm.
Ms. Lawson is survived by one daughter, Rose Hudson (Donald); one son, Ray Lawson (Bonnie); six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by one brother, Franklin Julius “Chick” Doerr.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Gillisonville Baptist Church Cemetery, Gillisonville, SC.
