William Joseph Sterling

William Joseph Sterling of Ridgeland, SC departed this life on Sunday, May 1, 2022, at the Ridgeland Nursing and Rehab Center, Ridgeland, SC.  He was the son of the late Isaac Jenkins, Sr. and Hannah Frazier Jenkins born April 14, 1941, in Beaufort, SC.

William attended the public schools in Beaufort, SC. He obtained a Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate from the Beaufort-Jasper Career Education Center and an Associate Degree in Bible Doctrine at Ekklesia Bible Institute, Hardeeville, SC. William worked as a civil service worker on Parris Island, SC; at Providence Hospital, Columbia, SC and retired from the Burco Utility and Railroad, Ridgeland, SC.

William joined the Carey Hill Baptist Church in Ridgeland, SC under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Dave A. Mitchell. He later joined Christian Fellowship Ministry under the leadership of Apostle James K. Evans, Sr., in Ridgeland, SC. He was ordained a Chairman Deacon and later an Elder. William loved the Lord and was faithful in his attendance until he became ill.  He loved to cook, read and work in the yard.

He leaves to mourn, his loving wife Dr. Lydia Roberta Brantley Sterling; five sons, Trent Brantley (Antionette Heyward), Tyrone Sterling, Deron Brantley, Reginald Washington (Laquetta) all of Ridgeland, SC, Brad Brantley (Pamela), Monroe, NC; two daughters, Annette Alston (Carl) and Deann Evans (Apostle James); three sisters, Doris Johnson, Jeanette Vines and Mary Ann Bryant all of Port Royal, SC; two brothers, Isaac Jenkins (Gloria), Lady’s Island, SC, and Rev. James Jenkins (Annie), Atlanta, GA; one brother-in-law, Pastor Jim Brantley (Dr. Annie) Ridgeland, SC; six sisters-in-law, Flora Patterson (Robert), Flossie Dupont, Almarie Drake (Oliver), Joanne Rice (Haddress), Mary Sanford all of Ridgeland, SC.; twenty grandchildren; four great grands; one special aunt-in-law, Addie Haynes; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. William was preceded in death by one son Russell Sterling.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2022, 11:00 am at Vaigneur Funeral Home Chapel, 6802 Tillman Road, Ridgeland, SC. A walk-thru will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at Vaigneur Funeral Home Chapel from 5:00-7:00 pm.  Burial to follow the service at Old Fort Cemetery, Port Royal, SC.
