On Tuesday, February 17th, Tracy passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family and friends, after quite a battle with a host of health concerns. Born on September 6, 1959, to the late Jimmy R. Cleland and Kathryn R. Cleland, Tracy grew up learning the value of hard work by the side of his father. Those early lessons shaped the foundation of who he became.
On June 10, 1989, Tracy married the love of his life, Cathy S. Cleland. For 36 years, Tracy and Cathy built a rich life of love and devotion. Cathy was not only his partner but his unwavering support through every joy, challenge, and chapter in between. She was, without question, his very best friend.
ln 1990, Tracy proudly opened Tracy Cleland Construction, a business built from the ground up. His work was more than a career; it was a reflection of his character and a legacy he poured his heart into.
When Tracy was not working, he treasured time spent cooking and opening his home to friends and family, and loved riding around on his tractor.
Together, Tracy and Cathy raised two children, Taylor and Trevor, who were the pride and joy of his life. Tracy instilled in them the same strong work ethic and values he learned from an early age. If you knew Tracy, you knew how much he loved sharing stories about his work, his adventures, and especially the accomplishments of his children. His love for them was immeasurable.
In 2O22, his pride grew even stronger when Trevor joined him in the construction business, continuing the family legacy he had worked so hard to build. His heart expanded further when he welcomed Taylor's husband, Mac, and Trevor's wife, Mati, into the family. He loved them deeply - more than words could ever express.
In 2024, Tracy welcomed his first grandson, Stetson. From the moment he arrived, Stetson was the absolute light of Tracy's life. Tracy and Cathy were blessed to spend each day with him, sharing meals, laughter, and moments that quickly became the highlight of every day. The bond between Tracy and Stetson was pure and joyful, a gift that brought him hope and happiness.
Tracy was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy, his mother, Kathryn, and his brother, Ricky. He is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Cleland; daughter, Taylor Mathias, and her husband Mac; son, Trevor Cleland, and his wife Mati; sister, Gayle Cleland; his beloved grandson, Stetson Mathias; his cherished brothers- and sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews who adored him.
Tracy will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his unmatched work ethic, his generosity, and the love he poured into every part of his life. His legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the home and family he built, and the many lives he touched along the way.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday February 21, 2026 at 10:00 am at the Cleland residence, 3968 Tillman Road, Ridgeland, SC. A celebration of life will follow the service at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Caring Hearts of SC, 1570 Driggers Lane, Ridgeland, SC 29936.
