Tony Barker

Mr. Tony Morrison Barker, 75, of Grays SC, passed away on February 2, 2024, surrounded by his family.  He was born on January 29, 1949, in Gastonia NC, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Charlie and Flossie Caldwell Barker.

Mr. Barker worked in the construction industry for over 20 years as a commercial driver.  With his wife Janelle, they fostered over 100 children, some whom they still stay in touch with.  He served his country bravely in Vietnam and was part of the TET Offensive of ’68.  During his tour he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Combat infantryman Badge, Air Medal, Vietnam Service medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry W/Palm, and a Bronze Star. 

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janelle Barker, brother, Charles Barker (Louise), sister, Teresa Kitchen (Tim), sons: Rudy Cleland (Leighann), James Taylor (Robin), daughters, Tina Jones (Robbie), Mary Beth Johnson, Christy Page (Ben), eighteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his brother Victor Barker, and son Timothy Sartain.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday February 7, 2024, at 11:00 am, at Vaigneur Funeral Home, 6802 Tillman Road, Ridgeland SC, 29936.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday February 6, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Vaigneur Funeral Home.  Burial will follow the service at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 2573 Rivers Hill Road, Varnville SC 29944.
