Ted Dewey Wells 70, of Bluffton SC, passed away on June 24, 2024, surrounded by the family. He was born on September 13, 1953, in Augusta SC to the late Gordon Wells and the late Virginia Floyd Wells.
Ted retired after 40 years as a golf course superintendent and 45 years in the business. He graduated from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, GA with an associate degree. While there he interned at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, SC. That was in 1973 and a year later Harbour Town offered him a job and later became the superintendent. In 1981 he moved to Spanish Wells Club and served that golf course for 37 years.
He retired in 2018 to run the family business, Wells Supply, alongside his brother, Stan. Their motto is “If we can’t get it, you don’t need it.” Ted continued to get an early morning start at 5:30 but rather than going to the golf course he started his day in a deer stand, turkey blind, or favorite fishing hole, (affectionately referred to as a therapy session). He and his wife Pam enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends.
He served his community in the National Guard, member of the Carolina’s Golf Club Superintendent’s Association class AA life member and was a long-time member of Tillman Methodist Church. In addition, he was the president of Green Swamp Club Inc., vice president of Jasper County Farm Bureau, board member of the United States Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency.
