Rod Tillotson

        Roy Woodrow “Rod” Tillotson, Jr., 60, of Ridgeland, SC passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Coastal Carolina Hospital in Hardeeville, SC after a courageous battle with cancer.  Rod was born on July 18, 1960 in Columbia, SC.

     Rod was the successful owner of Tillotson Plumbing Company which he formed in 1983.  He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend.  He was affectionately known to many as “Papa Rod” and “Hunky Rod”.  Rod was an excellent cook.  He always wanted to be prepared so he had food stored everywhere.  You never knew what you would find in the pantry, the closet, his office, the storage unit, and we won’t even mention the desk drawer. It was sure there was never a lack of snacks to satisfy his sweet tooth.  His family has many fond memories, especially the wonderful meals he enjoyed cooking.  He also was a huge fan of college football always pulling for the underdog!  He looked forward to their many vacations that were always sure to be adventurous.  Those who knew him best “loved” his ability to cause spontaneous laughter, in his innocent way, when he misinterpreted what they said.  He never met a stranger and never lost his sense of humor.  Rod was an extremely generous man.  Even in his death he gave the gift of sight as an eye donor.  Rod was a member of Ridgeland Baptist Church.

     Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kim W. Tillotson; his parents, Roy W. and Thelma Cooler Tillotson; his two sons, Bryant Tillotson (Jennifer) and Marshall Tillotson (Alana); one stepson, Christian Chandler (Azara); two stepdaughters, Faith Johnson (Nick) and Candace Chandler; two brothers, Ashley Tillotson (Sherri) and Rhett Tillotson; one sister, Janie Miller; and five grandchildren, Claire, Layton, Landon, Lila, and Cal Tillotson.

     A special thanks to Crescent Hospice, especially Ashley Lamb for her tender loving care, Coastal Carolina Hospital, and all the family and friends that were there to care for Rod.

     A drive-through visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Vaigneur Funeral Home, 6802 Tillman Road, Ridgeland, SC.

     A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm, on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Floyd Cemetery in Tillman, SC.
