Pinckney Ryan Malphrus, 91, passed away September 12, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born in Ridgeland, SC on October 11, 1931, to John Walter Malphrus and Golda Lowther Malphrus. He was the youngest of 15 children. He spent his entire life in Ridgeland and frequently remarked that there was no better place to live. He was a life-long faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attended the Ridgeland Ward.
In his younger years, Pinckney was an avid deer hunter and was known to catch the occasional gator. In more recent years, he loved gardening, fishing and a fire in the cold weather. He was locally famous for his delicious tomatoes and his beautiful gardens. He also loved to play a trick or pull a prank and would get rather tickled with himself when he succeeded.
Pinckney is survived by his wife, Mary Floyd Malphrus; children Tammy Bonds (Buzz), Ron Malphrus (Dine), and Kathy Cowart (Don); stepchildren David Morris (Dale) and Diane Echols; grandchildren Ashley Bonds Lamb (Jeffrey), Bradley Bonds, Taylor Cowart (Jennifer), Ryan Cowart, and Caroline Malphrus; step-grandchildren Marianne Echols Hawkins (Jerel), Matthew Echols (Lily), Jessica Morris, and Brian Morris; and 9 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth Herndon Malphrus, 14 brothers and sisters, and stepson Danny Morris.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Saturday, September 16 at 2:00pm. The family will receive guests at the church from 1:00pm until the beginning of the service. Burial will be immediately following service in the Ridgeland Cemetery.
