Omer E. DuBose, 94, of Ridgeland SC passed away on February 21, 2026. He was born on August 12, 1931, to the late James Lee and Susie Mae Carew DuBose.
Omer served his country as a right airplane gunner in the Korean War from November 7, 1951, to December 22, 1952. During one of his missions, the plane sustained damage from enemy fire: he and the copilot were the only survivors after crash landing.
Shortly after returning from the war, he met the love of his life, Mary Louise Lowther. They married on October 22, 1953. One year later on October 5, 1954, they welcomed their first son, Omer Keith DuBose. On March 30, 1960, they welcomed their second son, Bobby Lee DuBose. A year later, on July 3, 1961, their third son James Larry DuBose (Marybeth) was born. Omer had ten grandchildren: Keith Jr. (Wendy), Amanda (Brock), Byron, Gracee (Taylor), Asher, James, Jared, Jessica, Christopher (Ella), and Brandon. He had eleven great grandchildren: Wyatt (Chyanne), Keith III, Addison, Nick, Taylor, Madison, Chase, Dylan, Brantley, Everleigh, and Waylon. Omer also had six great-great-grandchildren: Ruby, Nova, Wyatt Jr., Braylee, Chance and Grayson.
His life was defined by faith and family. Omer embodied outstanding character. Married to Mary for 72 years, he told her daily that he loved her, and how beautiful she was. His unwavering faith was evident throughout his life. He was a founding member of Faith Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as an elder, deacon, and teacher. He loved Jesus, his family, playing the piano, and the Atlanta Braves. He is also known for playfully teasing those he cherished. His family will miss him dearly, but they are confident they will reunite with him in heaven.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 11:00 am at Faith Baptist Church, 1610 Grays Highway, Ridgeland, SC. The family will receive guests at the church beginning at 10:00 am until the hour of service. Burial will follow the service in Ridgeland Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in his memory to Faith Baptist Church, 1610 Grays Highway, Ridgeland SC 29936.
