Mike Mixson Obituary

Michael Allen Mixson, 70, of Ridgeland, SC died on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at his home after battling many years of health issues. He was born in Jacksonville, FL on January 29,1955, to James Routh Mixson, Sr. and Mrs. Gladys Peeples Mixson.

Mike, as he was known about town, was a graduate of Ridgeland High School, Class of 1973 and was a member of Coosawhatchie Baptist Church. He held a few jobs including working for the Town of Ridgeland, Jasper County Sheriff's department, and was the owner operator of Custom Tractor Service. All three of which allowed him to meet and converse with most every resident of Ridgeland and beyond. All that knew Mike, knew he loved people and conversation and had an exceptional memory and could share so many stories about everyone. At any given time, you could find him at a town business getting or giving the local scuttlebutt. He was an avid softball player, being a member of many championship teams throughout his younger days. Mike was a gentle giant who loved all things fast including motorcycles, muscle cars, and airplanes (both real and model). There were many days you could find him with a niece or nephew riding out to the Ridgeland airport just to look around.

Michael was baptized and became a member of Coosawhatchie Baptist Church as an adult. He was very proud of his relationship with the Lord and loved his visits and conversations with his Pastor, Allen Perry and was so very thankful for his guidance.

With no children of his own, he considered all of his nieces and nephews to be his kids and enjoyed any and all time he could spend with them. He was affectionately called "Tunk" by them and he was extremely proud of that title. Michael absolutely cherished his friends; so many of whom helped him so tremendously over the years, especially in the last 5-10 when his health began to diminish. We know this meant the world to him and his family is extremely thankful to all of you that loved him and showed it.

Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Robert Mixson (Judie),sisters, Kathryn Clements, Marcia Martinez (Albert), and Rosemary Taylor, his uncle Robert Peeples and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his parents James R. Sr and Gladys Mixson; his brother and sister-in-law James R. Jr and Judy Mixson, his brothers-in-law Edward Clements and Johnny Taylor, as well as a nephew Jerry Balkom.
