Obituary

Merle-Ann Ingram Wall, affectionately known as Mi-Mi, went to her heavenly home on January 22, 2023, at the age of 85. Mi-Mi was born to Henry Edward Ingram, Sr. and Muriel Astor Garvin Ingram on October 17, 1937, in Charleston, SC.

Mi-Mi met her husband, Harold Hampton Wall, Sr. in downtown Ridgeland. They married in 1954. He was the love of her life for more than 68 years.  At the beginning of her illness, he made up a song "My Sweet Mi-Mi, I Love You" which he sang to her every night.

In addition to her husband, Mi-Mi is survived by three siblings, Bonni Futch (Cecil), Cynthia Mallard, Kent Ingram (Phyllis), her children, Terri (Tess) Wall Simons, Harold Hampton Wall, Jr. (Eleanor),  Sheila Wall James (Michael), Kimberly Wall Tillotson,  eleven grandchildren, Tiffany Holman (Jeff), Tabitha Horne, Rebekah Horne, Hampton Wall, Olivia Wall, Harrison Wall,  Dr. Warren James, Micah Watford (Joshua), Candace Chandler, Faith Johnson (Nick) and Christian Chandler (Azara) and six great-grandchildren, Addison, Jackson, Tate, Teagan, Mary Elizabeth (Emi), Robert and many nieces and nephews.   Mi-Mi was welcomed in Heaven by her parents, in-laws, Julius “Julie” and Addie Wall, a brother, Henry Ingram, Jr. and son-in-law, Roy “Rod” Tillotson, Jr. who preceded her in death.

Mi-Mi graduated from Ridgeland High School.  She attended Armstrong State College, where she completed her associate and bachelor’s degrees in nursing. In 1980, she received a Master of Science in Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia. She began her nursing career at Candler General Hospital in Savannah, Georgia in 1971. In 1972, she worked at Jasper County General Hospital in Ridgeland, SC. She served as the Director of Nursing at John E. Harter Nursing Center in Fairfax, SC, Ridgecrest Convalescent Center in Ridgeland, and Seabrook of Hilton Head. She was the evening Nursing Supervisor at Live Oaks Hospital in Ridgeland from 1984-1986. After that, she retired. Mi-Mi had a gift for serving others. She was very conscientious in serving her patients with dignity, respect, and compassion.

Mi-Mi was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. Mi-Mi also loved to watch Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and play solitaire.  She took joy in baking birthday cakes for her children and grandchildren, crafting and making quilts. There are many church members who were wrapped in Jesus' love baby blankets made by Mi-Mi when new babies were born.

At a young age, Mi-Mi accepted Jesus as her Lord and her Savior which carried her through life. Her light and love were ever present to everyone she encountered especially her family. She shared her faith and love of Jesus through fellowship with family, friends, and the many mission trips she went on. She was a member of Ridgeland Baptist Church and attended the Women’s Bible Study Sunday school class.

The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to the wonderful caregivers who were by Mi-Mi's side through her illness, her loving daughters, Sheila and Kim.  A very special thank you to Felicia Davis, Ashley Lamb, Monica Jenkins and her granddaughter, Faith for their tender, loving care.

The family request memorial donations be made to Ridgeland Baptist Church, 1448 Grays Highway, Ridgeland, SC 29936.
