Mary Sue “Mimi” Wible, 99, of Newcastle, DE, passed away on January 13, 2024.
Born to Edmond McInturff and Myrtle E. Turbyfill Mann on July 1, 1924, in Green Mountain, NC, where she was surrounded by two large, loving families and two beautiful farms, before moving with her family to Havre de Grace, Maryland and later Newcastle, Delaware.
Sue enjoyed roller skating, horseback riding and local dances with friends. She met her husband, Robert “Bob” Wible in 1948 at a roller-skating competition. They shared one daughter, BobbieSue Birch, born in 1956. Bob and Sue loved attending dances at local dance clubs, every Saturday night. Sue worked at the credit department and later the patent department at Hercules, Inc. in Wilmington, DE for 34 years. She was active in her local Baptist church, and never missed a Saturday morning hair appointment. She prioritized time with her family, spending most of her time raising her daughter, visiting her mother, Myrtle “Mom-Mom” and her grandparents/aunts/and uncles in North Carolina.
After retirement, Sue enjoyed spending time at Atlantic City, New Jersy with her many friends, Virginia “Jean” Eskridge, Bob Farmer, Lester Young, Les McLarin and her brothers, Ed, Robert, and Scott.
In 1990, she moved to Norcross, GA., to help raise her first grandchild, granddaughter JohnieSue Thurman, who granted her the name “Mimi”. Her grandson, Robert Birch was born four years later and Mimi dove into caring for her grandchildren after school and on weekends. She took them on exciting trips to St. Louis, Florida, North Carolina, and Delaware. She attended every dance performance, baseball game, and piano recital for her grandchildren.
In her later years, she moved to Estill, SC to live with her daughter. She maintained a close relationship with her grandchildren and was adored by many in the local community. She loved all animals, and inspired the names, and facilitated the rescue of many farm animals in need.
Mimi’s favorite things included fine jewelry and couture clothing, poodles, winning family watermelon competitions, and drinking a margarita (but make it good).
Sue is survived by her only child, BobbieSue Birch (Dan) and two grandchildren: JohnieSue Thurman and Robert Birch and her beloved poodle “Beau”.
A private service and interment will be held at Gracelawn Memorial Park in Newcastle, DE.
