Jacob Lyman Malphrus, Sr., 91 of Ridgeland, SC passed away Friday, February 15, 2019 at his home. He was born on November 7, 1927 in Ridgeland to the late John Lawton, Sr. and Gladys Verna Malphrus.
Mr. Malphrus served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1950. He was stationed in Anchorage, AL and served in the Korean Conflict and in World War II. He married Marjorie Hutson on December 23, 1951 and worked until retirement for Kleckley Gas Company and Pinckney Brothers Construction Company. After retirement, Mr. Lyman worked for R & L Nursery and as a courier for Palmetto Electric Cooperative. He was a member of Great Swamp Baptist Church and served in many capacities over many years, including serving as a deacon. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Ridgeland, and in his free time enjoyed gardening, taking care of his plants, spending time with his children and grandchildren, fishing, hunting, and playing Canasta with friends.
Left to cherish his memory are his four sons, Jay Malphrus, Danny Malphrus (Lynn), Kistler Malphrus and Johnny Malphrus; three daughters, Leila Bolton, Debbie Starns (Mike) and Dicie Peeples (Dan); 33 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and his close friend, James Simmons. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Marjorie Hutson Malphrus; daughter, Bonnie Warren; and daughter-in-law, Marie Malphrus.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Vaigneur Funeral Home, 6802 Tillman Rd., Ridgeland, SC. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Great Swamp Baptist Church, 9009 Tarboro Rd., Ridgeland, SC with burial following in the church cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Jasper County Council on Aging, P.O. Box 641, Ridgeland, SC 29936, to benefit the senior citizen centers in Jasper county.
