Karen Malphrus

Karen Lowther Malphrus, 81, of Ridgeland, SC passed away on January 27, 2024.  She was born on August 18, 1942, in Cincinnati, OH.

Ms. Karen was the owner and operator of Clip N Curl hair salon until her retirement.  Cheering for her grandchildren is where you would find her on Friday nights, ringing her cow bell and pulling for her favorite team.  She loved music, especially shag.  Dancing was one of her favorite past-times and enjoyed competing in shag contests.  When she retired, she devoted her time to planting and nurturing her plants in and around her house.  She was especially fond of Sago Palms and had a knack for growing beautiful palms. 

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Cathy Tuten (Mike), Sambo O’Quinn, grandchildren: Kayla Holmes (Scott), Corey Tuten (Ivy), J.D. Tuten, great grandchildren: Brooks Tuten, Bennett Tuten, Connor Holmes, mother, Pauline Lowther, sister-in-law, Dan Lowther and her K-9 companion “Bodie”.  She was married to and preceded in death by Sammy O’Quinn who she had two children with and Larry Malphrus who she was married to for 20 years. 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday January 31, 2024, at 11:00 am, at Great Swamp Baptist Church, 9009 Tarboro Road, Ridgeland, SC.  The family will receive guests starting at 10:00 am at the church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
