Joseph Cortland Walters, III

     Joseph Cortland Walters, III, 91, of Ridgeland, SC passed away December 26, 2022. He was born on July 3, 1931, in Bridgeton, NJ, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Esther Schlafer Walters, Jr.

     Mr. Walters retired from the US Marines after 20 years of service. During his time in the Corp, he served in both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts and was also stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He was proud to be a Marine and of his service to his country. He had a big heart and always donated to the church to feed needy families during the holidays. His service didn’t stop there; he was an active Freemason and Shriner for many years, and people described him as a loving and generous man. Family was very important to him and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles, and for several years, was avid about finding time to ride.

    Left to cherish his memory, are his children; Joseph Walters, IV, Kathy Langford (Leon), Donna Papanicolas (Akillas), thirteen grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; Glondell Malphrus Walters, one daughter, Lynda Saxon, one brother, Donald Walters, and one grandson.

    A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, December 30, 2022, at Vaigneur Funeral Home, 6802 Tillman Road, Ridgeland, SC. The family  will receive friends from 6:00pm – 8:00pm on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Vaigneur Funeral Home.
