John Howard Taylor, 71, of Ridgeland SC, passed away on July 31, 2020 after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Johnny was born in Winston-Salem, NC on July 9, 1949 to the late Mr. and Mrs. John Henry and Mildred Williams Taylor.
Mr Taylor retired from Spring Island Plantation after 27 years as landscape supervisor. He was beloved by all Spring Island Community Members. Johnny was most proud of his daughter, son, and grandchildren. He loved to share pictures and stories of them. He documented the special moments on his phone video. He was a lifetime farmer alongside his father and brother. Taylor Farms was known for its tomatoes in both Beaufort and Jasper counties. An avid outdoorsman who looked forward to hunting and fishing with his children, grandchildren, brother, and lifelong friends Wayne Blakenship and Paul Smith. Johnny cherished and loved being brother to Carolyn, Libby, and Eddie.
Johnny was inducted into the USC-B athletic hall of fame for basketball. He would use those basketball skills to maintain his winning streak of H.O.R.S.E against his oldest grandson. Johnny learned to enjoy retirement by spending countless hours with his tractor and gardens. No, trip to “The Farm” would be complete without visiting his favorite pony, Remy, for a peppermint. If you couldn’t find Johnny at the farm watching his granddaughter ride that pony he was at the ballfield cheering on his favorite boys. He will forever be remembered for his animated storytelling, kind heart, and generosity. If you knew him he became your friend, and if he was your friend, you were loved.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Rosie Taylor, the love of his life for 46 years, one son “J” Taylor (Becky), one daughter, Lindsay Taylor, three grandchildren Walker Howard, Addie Kate, and John Bishop Taylor, one brother Eddie Taylor, sisters, Carolyn T. Rogers (Rod), Libby T. Lowther (LeGrand) a host of nieces and nephews and his favorite “fur girls”, Marley and Little Bit.
