James "Jim" Edwin Bess, 79, passed away peacefully at his home on February 2, 2022, after a long battle with cancer. James was born on August 11, 1942, in Nashville, TN, to the late Mr. Edwin and Mrs. Ruby Armstrong Bess.
James served in the United States Marine Corps, became a journeyman, electrician and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (I.B.E.W). He worked on the Alaskan pipeline and retired from Parris Island Marine Corp Depot as an electrical estimator/inspector.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Kathy Cantineri, Anna Cantineri, Jennifer Jones (Hugh) and Jerri Bess; son, James Bess, Jr (Valicia); sisters, Peggy Sanders, Grace Foster and Betty Bell; ex-wife, caregiver and life, long companion, Beverly Maule; twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and their families. He was loved and will be missed by all.
A funeral service will be held at Vaigneur Funeral Home Chapel, 6802 Tillman Road, Ridgeland, SC, on Monday, February 7, 2022, at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am until the hour of the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at 2:00 pm at the Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary Street, Beaufort, SC.
