Jennie V Smith was born on January 14, 1923, and she was a native of Ridgeland, SC. She was the daughter of James Rance Barker and Ruby Ann Barker. She passed away on March 24, 2020. Jennie V was the wife of Henry Rufus Smith, Sr. and they were married for 64 years. She is survived by her three children Henry R. Smith, Jr. (Barbara) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Donna S. Larrow (Mike) of Ridgeland, SC and Ronald Carter Smith (Angie) of Lyman, SC; her grandchildren: Carolyn L. Keisler (Van), Elizabeth L. Jennings (Chris), Michael G. Larrow, Marianne S. Goolsby (John), Jennifer S. Wienke (Shawn), Ronald C. “Cot” Smith (Kimberly) and Sarah S. White (Dave); 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Jennie V was predeceased by her sister Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Smith, her brother William C. Barker and her great granddaughter Megan Keisler.
She graduated from Ridgeland High School in 1940. In 1950, she began her career with Palmetto Electric Cooperative, which at that time had 900 customers. In 1985, she retired after serving for thirty years as the office Manager.
Ms. Jennie V was a member of Ridgeland Baptist Church, where she served as the Treasurer of the May Lynes Sunday School Class for many years. Her faith kept her as a regular tither even when she could not attend church any longer. Her faith was unwavering. She loved catching up with her friends by way of phone calls and sending cards. She enjoyed her family and cherished celebrating holidays with her family of 35.
Our heart felt thanks to The Pruitt Hospice workers for all their loving care for our Mother. Thank you, Samantha, Chris, Tonya, Annette, Rachel and Kim. Thank you to our special caregiver Johnnie Mae Maxwell.
The family will celebrate her life with a private funeral service.
