Jackie Leonard Chavers, 73, of Ridgeland SC, passed away on December 17, 2025. He was born in New Orleans, LA., on July 14, 1952, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur and Angelina Monistere Chavers.
Above all else, Jackie loved Jesus Christ. His life was simple and unwavering: to tell others about the Gospel and how to accept Christ. His most well-known words were also the way he lived his life: “Tell Somebody About Jesus.”
Jackie loved his family deeply. His wife Donna was his best friend and constant companion. He found great joy in giving to his family, traveling together, and sharing new experiences with his children and grandchildren.
Jackie also had a deep love for his community. He served for many years as pastor of Gospel Lighthouse Church of Ridgeland, where he brought countless people to know the Gospel. He ministered to inmates at the Jasper County Detention Center and Ridgeland Correctional Institution, offering hope and encouragement. In 2003, through Christ Central Ministries, he opened the Christ Central Ridgeland Mission Shelter for homeless men, providing food, shelter, spiritual guidance, and help transitioning into restored lives.
In addition to his ministry, Jackie was the owner of New Life Painting, a business he loved deeply. He cared for his employees and valued his clients, seeing his work as another way to serve others with honesty, excellence, and faith.
Jackie loved visiting his first home Louisiana. Getting back to his roots and seeing his family meant the world to him. He also loved the Lowcountry waters, shrimping, hunting, and generously sharing what God provided. His heart was full of love, joy and compassion.
Pastor Jackie Chavers leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and love that continues every time someone shares the Gospel and to “Tell Somebody about Jesus.”
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Donna Chavers, daughters: Stephanie Jarrell (Mark), Kimberly Rhodes (Justin), brothers: Eddie Chavers, Tim Chavers, sister, Deborah Metcalf (Don), grandchildren: Kate Ingram, Haley Heslin (Tommy), and Konnor Harrell.
A celebration of life will be held at Praise Assembly Church of Ridgeland, 131Carters Mill Road, Ridgeland SC 29936 on Saturday December 20, 2025, at 2:00 pm. The family will receive guests at the church beginning at 1:00.
