Ms. Hazel Smith Cope, 87, of Grays, SC passed away on July 7, 2022. She was born in Grays, SC, on January 27, 1935, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Livingston and Nancy Mixson Smith.
She was a teachers aid for many years and enjoyed traveling around the world as the wife of a career Air Force Veteran. In 1973, she and her late husband Bernard Cope returned to Grays to make a home for their family where she grew up. Ms. Hazel always had a smile and a kind word for everyone and rarely had a complaint. Ms. Hazel was a member of Pine Level Baptist Church and enjoyed taking trips with the “home alone” ladies of the church. She also enjoyed trips to the store and very few days passed without her favorite ice cream.
Left to cherish her memory are a son, David Cope (Julie); a daughter, Lori Crosby (Darin); one sister, Betty Smith; two sister-in-law’s, Annette Smith and Dot Cope; six grandchildren, Morgan Black (Allen), Colby Crosby (Kayla), Dylan Crosby (Lindsey), Rachel Cope, Shelby Etheridge (Brodie), and Leslee Cope; five great grandchildren, Livi Crosby, Avery Crosby, Zane Crosby, Banks Black and Baker Black; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Reagan Livingston Cope; three brothers and five sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, July 11, 2022, at Pine Level Baptist Church, 2009 Pine Level Church Road, Early Branch, SC, 29916. Interment will follow the service at Grimes Cemetery, Grays Hwy, Early Branch, SC 29916.
