Gen Rodell Malphrus

     Gen Rodell Malphrus, 67, of Hilton Head Island, SC, passed away on December 24, 2019 in the comfort of his home with his family by his side.  He was born on December 20, 1952 in Ridgeland, SC to the late French R. and Nona P. Malphrus.

     Gen is survived by his wife, Kay Hodges Malphrus, his son, Cory Allen Malphrus (Judith), and his grandson, Hunter Ramon Malphrus, as well as one sibling, Margaret Davis (Coleman), and many nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by his siblings, Louise Baker, Collins Malphrus, Ellen Langford and Bertie Woods.

     Gen and Kay both attended Thomas Heyward Academy where they were high school sweethearts.  They married on January 14, 1972 and lived in Ridgeland until they moved to Hilton Head in 1998.

     Gen was employed with ESPY Lumber Company in Hilton Head/Okatie, SC as a sales representative from February 2001 until he retired in November of this year.  He was a Master Freemason with the Hardeeville Masonic Lodge #348 since July 11, 2000.

     Family was the most important part of Gen’s life.  He loved to cook.  He was so excited when his grandson, Hunter, was born January 3, 2019 and looked forward to his retirement and spending as much time as possible with his family.

     Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Ridgeland Baptist Church, 1448 Grays Highway, Ridgeland, SC 29936, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow the funeral service at the Great Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery located at 9009 Tarboro Road, Ridgeland, SC  29936.
