Capt. Frank Leonard Boyd, 71, of Hardeeville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 01, 1952, in Savannah, Georgia to the late Perry and Queen Boyd and grew up in Savannah and Bluffton, South Carolina.
Frank was a very hardworking man who wore many hats in his lifetime. He was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard and retired as a Captain from Sea Pines Forest Beach Fire Department on Hilton Head Island after 20 years of service. But the hat he enjoyed wearing the most was that of a boat captain. Frank found great joy in being on the water and knowing just where to find the fish. He captained many boats, too many to name, during his 45+ years as a boat captain, but the one he was most proud to captain was the Lonesome Dove (I-VI).
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Boyd. Frank leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Alice Smith Boyd, his daughter Christy (O.C.) DeCosta, his grandchildren, Marcus (Monica) Boyd, Kalani, Tatiyana, and Adrienne DeCosta, his great granddaughter, Autumn Boyd, his sister, Lynn (David) Collins, “his other sons”, Bill and Nathan Smith, his brother-in-law, Randy (Vivian) Smith, and numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks to please send donations to Hardeeville Marine Rescue Squadron 2B at P.O. Box 586, Hardeeville, South Carolina, 29927. There will be a Celebration of Life for Capt. Frank on July 13, 2024, at The Hardeeville Marine Rescue Squadron 2B located at 55 Millstone Landing Rd., Hardeeville, South Carolina beginning at 12:00 pm until…
“A Fisherman’s Prayer”
‘God grant that I may live to fish
until my dying day,
And when it comes to my last cast,
I then most humbly pray;
When in the Lord’s safe landing net
I’m peacefully asleep,
That in His mercy I be judged,
As good enough to keep.’
