Ervin Richard Floyd, 87, of Ridgeland, SC passed away Monday, August 2, 2021. He was born on March 29,1934, in Tillman, SC to the late Mr. and Mrs. Clarence and Flossie Ivey Floyd.
Mr. Floyd served in the U.S. Navy as a boatswain’s mate from 1957-1959. Ervin was employed as the District Director of the United States Department of Agriculture-Farm Service Agency from 1972-1996 and served on the Palmetto Electric Coop Board of Directors from 1973-1975. Upon his retirement in 1996, he was awarded the Order of the Palmetto by Governor David Beasley for his service to Jasper County and the state of South Carolina. Mr. Floyd served as the Clerk of Court in Jasper County, helped organize the first Republican Party in Jasper County, and was the first known Republican elected to office in Jasper County. He served as president of the Ridgeland J.C.s, and in 1966, served as the state director of the J.C.s, and also that same year, served as the voter registration chairman for Jasper County. Mr. Floyd was a member of Okatee Baptist Church, and a lifelong member of the American Lodge 98, AFM, in Ridgeland, SC.
Left to cherish his memory are one son, Ervin Richard “Ricky” Floyd, Jr. (Helen); one twin brother, Everette Floyd; one sister, Dan Lowther (David); one sister-in-law, Vera Floyd, and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Jones Floyd; one son, Clarence Mitchell Floyd; three brothers, Marshall Floyd, Bill Floyd, Lanier Floyd; and two sisters-in-law, Catherine Floyd, Sally Floyd.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm, on Friday, August 6, 2021, at Vaigneur Funeral Home, 6802 Tillman Road, Ridgeland, SC. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Okatee Baptist Church, 5467 N. Okatie Hwy., Ridgeland, SC 29936. Burial will follow at 1:30 pm, in Floyd Cemetery in Tillman, SC 29943.
