Edith (Mears) Nettles

Edith Mears Nettles, 94, of Okatie SC passed away on June 27, 2021, at her home surrounded by family and friends. She was born February 8, 1927, in Ridgeland, SC to the late Mr. & Mrs. Harry & Mary Nettles Mears.

Edith was a God-fearing woman and a sibling to fourteen. One of Edith’s greatest loves was her family. She worried about us, she told stories about us, she instilled the value of family in us, but most of all she taught us to love without limitations or conditions.  

She was an avid quilt maker, which has worked out in our favor, because we all love our blankets from Mama/Granny. Edith loved to sip coffee and watch the red birds and hummingbirds from the front porch chair. She spent hours feeding them, watering their many baths, and shewing off the squirrels. Once she was unable to do this on her own, we carried on the tradition of feeding the birds so she could still enjoy watching them. Edith also collected Angels in every shape or size. She had them placed all over the house and could not wait to see them in the sky.   

Those left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Trudy Bush & Faye Manning (Greg) and her daughter in Law Rhonda Nettles, her five grandchildren Byron Bush (Mercedes), Leighann Smith, Dawn Milliken (Jason), Jay Manning (Jill) and Kim Lucas, nine great grandchildren and two great – great grandchildren as well as her sister Gladys Deloach (Dick).

Prior to her death, she lost both of her sons Walter Tyler and Wayne Nettles, as well as her beloved husband, Walter Nettles of 61 years.

We want to tell you something so there is no doubt, You're so wonderful to think of, but so hard to live without.     

A visitation will begin at 10:00 am, on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Vaigneur Funeral Home Chapel, 6802 Tillman Road, Ridgeland, SC.Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Vaigneur Funeral Home Chapel.
