Dr. Ronnie Osgood Obituary

Dr. Ronnie Wilson Osgood Sr. was born on January 3, 1954, in Varnville SC. to Mr. and Mrs. Henry and Elizebeth Rhett Osgood, along with his twin sister Connie Osgood Eddings.

He was raised in the small Native American community of Coosawhatchie SC.  He attended the public schools of Jasper County.

In his early twenties, Ronnie married Etrenda Ferguson and they had two daughters Shannan and Sharon.  Later in life he married Sharon Burns, and had Ronnie Osgood Jr.   After his wife Sharon’s passing, he met and married Carolyn Hurt, a gospel recording artist whose stage name is Carolyn Hester-White.

At the early age of nineteen, Dr. Osgood decided to give his life to God and started in ministry under the leadership of Mother Mary Brown at Chapel On The Hill Church in Coosawhatchie SC.  Dr. Osgood evangelized throughout the low country and surrounding areas by radio broadcast on Sunday mornings.  He worked with several ministries in SC, GA and NY.  He served on the youth and musical department at Indian Creek Holiness Church under the leadership of Bishop Ruth Washington.  Dr. Osgood was later ordained and installed as Pastor of Jackson Temple in Ridgeland SC.

Dr. Osgood had several different careers throughout his lifetime.  He owned Ronnies Used Cars in the 1970’s and worked security maintenance and construction jobs as well.  His real passion was entertainment.  He formed a gospel group The New Revelation Singers and recorded several records.  Later he decided to give Funk/R&B music a try and formed the “The Revelation”.  This is when he adopted the alter ego “The Dirty Old Man”.  He recorded several records and albums.  Eventually he found his way back into the gospel world and recorded albums and one of his best known songs, “Say It Loud, I’m Saved and I’m Proud”.  Dr Osgood also spent careers as a fashion model, TV producer, director, song writer, actor, Deejay, Singer, music producer, radio and television show host and stage actor.  Dr. Osgood wore many hats and enjoyed touring and acting in stage plays alongside his daughters, Shannan and Sharon.  He had three television shows, Solid Soul, Solid Gospel, and Solid Gospel and more, hosted by his daughters Shannan and Sharon.  He has written songs for several artists and produced several albums including one for his son Ronnie Osgood, Jr. when he was a small child.  Ronnie was always a soldier on the battlefield for the Lord.  Many people recognize his God Squad car which was another part of his ministry.  He was an advocate for a crime-free Jasper County.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Henry Osgood Sr. and Elizabeth Rhett Osgood, paternal grandparents: Phoebe Pollins (Fortune) and Lester Wall, maternal grandparents: Annie Mae Simmons and Thomas Rhett, his siblings: Sam Osgood, Geneva Osgood Benson, Carrie Osgood Paterson, nephews: Staff Seargent Esau G.
