Donald Miller, Sr Obituary

Donald Ralph Miller Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law and friend, passed away on September 11, 2025 in Hardeeville, South Carolina, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. He was 80 years old.

Family was the joy of Don’s life. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Dotti Miller; their children Don Jr., Michele and Danielle; and grandchildren Jeremiah Retberg, Abigail Miller, Zachary Miller, Harry Perrault, Lucy Perrault and Katie Perrault. He was also blessed with a great-grandchild, Mackenzie Retberg. He will be fondly remembered by his daughter-in-law Sheila Miller and son-in-law George Lancos, as well as his brothers Jack (Mary) Miller, Dick (Meggie) Miller and Dave (Sue) Miller and in-laws Ross (Sandy) Gibilisco, Connie (Tim) Burke and Gary Gibilisco.

Born on November 11, 1944 in Omaha, Nebraska Don’s life was defined by love, service, laughter and dedication. After graduation from Creighton Prep he proudly served four years in the United States Marine Corps, including service in Vietnam. After his return he attended the University of Nebraska–Omaha, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design, Architecture and Art History.

Don went on to enjoy a successful career in the furniture industry, culminating in his role as Vice President of Sales at Baker Furniture. His career allowed him to travel the world, where his natural warmth and humor shone through — he never met a stranger, only future friends.

Don always embraced life fully and continued his zest for life in retirement. He was a proud member of the Muirfield Country Club in Dublin, OH where he worked on recent clubhouse renovations and enjoyed countless rounds of golf.

His religion was so important to him and he deepened his faith by joining the Sovereign Order of Malta where he was a Knight. He found purpose in volunteering at their clinic in Columbus.

Wherever he went, Don brought laughter, kindness and joy — traits that endeared him to all who knew him. He might have been short in stature but he was always the biggest personality in the room.

Don will be remembered for his unwavering love of family, his sharp wit and his generosity of spirit. He will be dearly missed.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Bluffton, South Carolina on Monday, September 29, 2025 at 10:30 AM.

A celebration of life will take place in the Dublin, Ohio area at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Order of Malta in Don’s honor.
