David Daring

David “Ole Dad” Clint Daring, Jr., 69, of Ridgeland SC, passed away on May 21, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born on June 28, 1955, in Ridgeland SC, to the late Mr. and Mrs. David and Joanna Malphrus Daring.

David attended Ridgeland High School. Soon after graduation, he married his sweetheart Iola Malphrus.  Shortly after they married, he went to work for Malphrus Construction and continued his employment with them for 33 years.  During the time he worked for Malphrus Construction, he wore many hats.  One of those was project superintendent.  “Ole Dad” as he was known to his peers and friends had a reputation for laying a great foundation for the other foremen to follow.  He was also known to have a knack to build golf courses to perfection. He not only built courses in the Lowcountry but around the Southeast.  After Malphrus Construction he went to work for Cleland Construction and continued with them before retiring with nearly 50 years in construction.  David was also a family man who loved his wife and children very much.  However, when his grandchildren came along, he had another level of love for them.  Rarely did he miss a sports event, and they were his world. He will be missed by all his family very much.  David didn’t let retirement keep him from being busy.  His love for gardening, fishing, hunting and tending to his farm animals proved to be a full-time job and he loved every minute.  When he wasn’t busy outside you would find him home monitoring the scanner or watching one of his favorite sports on television.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Iola Daring, son, Davy Daring (Valorie), daughter, KayCee Goethe (Chris), sister, Debbie Smith (Kevin), grandchildren: Brittnie Goethe, Trista Daring, JC Goethe, DJ Daring, Jayla Daring, Alyssa Goethe, mother-in-law, Patricia Malphrus, brothers-in-law: Rodney Malphrus (April), Martin Malphrus (Jodi), Patrick Malphrus (Kim), and a host of nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by a sister, Sheila Stevens.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday May 31, 2025, at 11:00 at Vaigneur Funeral Home, 6802 Tillman Road, Ridgeland SC.  The family will receive guests beginning at 10:00 am until the hour of service at the funeral home.
