Corey Daniel Swims

Corey Daniel Swims, 17, of Ridgeland, SC passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022. He was born on March 23, 2004, in Hilton Head Island, SC to Grady Ledreal and Shanna Janeen Swims.

Corey loved gaming and used it as his social outlet. He was outspoken with a sense of humor, never met a stranger, and enjoyed a good joke, as well as telling a good joke. Those at the hospital called him “King Corey” during his many visits. He was a very determined young man, fighting against SMA Type 2, even until the end. Corey was also determined on completing his schoolwork. He loved being the meal planner of the house and enjoyed eating and drinking.  Above all, Corey loved his family.  He was a kind, loving and very bright young man, who enjoyed many things in life.  He loved history and traveling. He was  loved, will be missed, and never forgotton.  He was truly a Godsend for the people who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Grady and Shanna Swims; his sister, Isabell Swims; maternal Grandma, Amy Sundell;  Grandpa, Anthony Goude; paternal grandmother,  Loretta Diaz; maternal great grandmother, Bette Sundell; great grandpa, Michael Sundell (Denyse), great-aunt Debbie Sticht (Guy), Uncle Zack Sundell (Samantha) and Uncle Mason Sundell; paternal Aunt Angela Silas, and Aunt Michelle Franchi; his best friend Dakota Khan aka:"QwertyAzerty"; his lifetime friend and encourager, Clay Marsh; great-aunts, great-uncles, many cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his paternal uncle Jonathan Damron, and other family who was there to meet him in Heaven. 

The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to the entire medical team at MUSC for their support and for treating Corey as their own.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm, on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Vaigneur Funeral Home Chapel, 6802 Tillman Road, Ridgeland, SC. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00pm until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
