Claude Spilliards

Claude Lee Spilliards, Jr., 86, passed away peacefully at home in Jacksonville, Fl, on April 26, 2025.  He was born in Ridgeland, SC, on January 6, 1939, to the late Claude Lee Spilliards, Sr. and Mary Smith Spilliards.

Claude lived nearly all his life in Ridgeland. He grew up on Bailey Mill and graduated from Ridgeland High School in 1959. As a young adult he served in the National Guard and was employed as a State Trooper for the SC Highway Patrol. Later, he worked many years for Cypress Woods Corporation and the US Postal Service. He is probably most remembered for owning and operating R&L Nursery in Ridgeland for 30 years. He was a member of the Ridgeland Baptist Church and had served as a deacon.

Claude is survived by his wife, Eunice Floyd Spilliards, to whom he was married for 61 years. He is also survived by his two daughters, Robin Stevens (Todd) and Leann Miller (David); his two granddaughters, Brantley Miller Lawson (Brett) and Claudia Miller; and a great-grandson, Miller Lawson. In addition, he is survived by a sister, Emily Spilliards Beach (Ira) and many nieces and nephews.

Claude loved his community and friends. He enjoyed drinking coffee and visiting with them as often as possible. He spent many hours gardening and working on projects in his wood shop. He was loved by his family, and he will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday April, 30, 2025 at 3:00 pm at Vaigneur Funeral Home, 6802 Tillman Road, Ridgeland, SC. The family will receive guest starting at 2:00 pm until the hour of service at the funeral home.
