Cindy McKellar

Cynthia Anne “Cindy” McKellar – beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 23, 2023, with her son Daniel by her side. 

She was predeceased by her parents, Eunice Carter and Joel Jones McKellar of Ridgeland, SC, and her sister, Joan McKellar Jarrell of Hampton, SC and William Daniel “Dan” Pruitt of Athens, GA. 

Born on Saint Patrick’s Day March 17, 1952, she spent most of her life in Ridgeland, SC where her family lived for many generations.  A graduate of Ridgeland High School in the year of 1970, she went on to the University of South Carolina where she received her Doctorate of Pharmacy.  Cindy was a successful pharmacist for over 40 years serving people at many different pharmacies in Hilton Head, Ridgeland, Hardeeville, and Savannah.  Her first pharmacy was Capin’s Pharmacy on Hilton Head Island.  It was at Capin’s where she met and fell in love with William Daniel “Dan” Pruitt.  They were married in 1979 and enjoyed an amazing honeymoon in the Bahamas where they enjoyed tropical weather and fed dolphin followed by a trip to New York for a celebrity tennis match in Dan’s 280 ZX.  Dan gave her the two greatest gifts of her life, her children Daniel and Courtney. 

Cindy’s greatest joy and true life’s work, where she poured all her love, care, and service, was to her children – her legacy.  She spent every day of her life truly devoted to her son, Daniel and her daughter, Courtney who suffers from Reye’s Syndrome.  In 1992, she moved her family to Savannah, GA seeking special care and education for Courtney.  The life Cindy led was simple, but her home was always overflowing with love, as she loved them with every inch of her being.  This love and care would later be reciprocated by her children after she suffered a major stroke in 2017. 

Cindy is survived by her loving son, Daniel Joel McKellar and beautiful daughter, Courtney Danielle McKellar both of Savannah, GA, her brother, the Honorable Henry Louis McKellar (Jan) of Columbia, SC, two nephews, Paul Wyman Hair, Jr. (Wendy) of Beaufort, SC, and David Layton Hair (Becky) of Ridgeland, SC, one niece, Terri Hair Helms (Richard) of Lyons, GA and many great nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Cindy was beautiful inside and out and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. 

Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Vaigneur Funeral Home, 6802 Tillman Road, Ridgeland, SC with Dr. Larry Scott officiating.  The family will receive friends and family beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.   Interment will follow the service in Ridgeland Cemetery, Ingram Street, Ridgeland, SC.
