Charles H. Stone, 81, of Ridgeland, SC passed away Saturday, December 31, 2022, at his home. He was born in Ridgeland, SC on October 25, 1941, to the late Carl Monroe “Bud” Stone and Vera Hodges Stone.
He was a graduate of Ridgeland High School and served in the United States Army. He was employed by the United States Department of Defense where he received the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service in 1984. He returned to South Carolina and eventually retired from the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
“Charlie” was proud to be an American and had a great appreciation for the men and women serving in the United States Armed Forces. He enjoyed reading and built an expansive personal library. He also had an unwavering loyalty to the Atlanta Braves and the South Carolina Gamecocks. He took great pride in his home and keeping a well-groomed yard.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 34 years, Christine Stone of Ridgeland; a son, Edwin Stone of Las Vegas, NV; a stepson, Jesse Keatts of Hardeeville, SC; two stepdaughters, Lisa Humbert, also of Hardeeville, and Tina McLemore (Bruce) of Ridgeland; two brothers, Carl “Stoney” Stone also of Ridgeland, and John Stone (Leah) of Orlando FL; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy White.
