Carolyn Gay (Fazekas) Attaway

Carolyn Gay Fazekas Attaway, age 91, died after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.  Gay was the only child of Alex and Norris Bennett Fazekas.  She knew New Orleans, LA as her childhood home.  There she met and later married her high school sweetheart Wayne M. Attaway.  In 1949 they moved to Geiger, AL where they raised two daughters.  Gay was employed as executive secretary by Huyck Felt Company in Aliceville, AL for many years.  In 1974, they moved to Ridgeland, SC and she worked alongside her husband Wayne at Okeetee Club plantation where she was office/payroll manager.  She continued to work after the passing of her beloved Wayne in 1983 until her retirement when she built  her dream cottage where she enjoyed gardening, entertaining her ladies bridge club and her fur “baby”.  Her children and grandchildren brought her much joy and she enjoyed spoiling them.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters:

Kathy A. Hawkins (Len) and Karen A. Duncan (Tommie).

Her five granddaughters:

Allison L. Ledford (Scott), Amy H. Wood (Chris), Alaina H. Poole (Anthony), Kelly D. Wersler (Charles), & Katie D. McDowell (Paul).

Her six great-grandchildren:

Caroline Moore, Lauren Bryson, Emma & Camden McDowell, & Macy & Wiliam Wersler and one great-great grandson, Daxton Moore.

Her family wishes to thank the staff of Ridgeland Nursing Center & Hospice for their loving care in her final days.
