Emeriel Carlyle Hubbard, known to most people as Carlyle or EC passed away in the early morning hours on August 24, 2020 at his home after a long illness. He was age 90, having been born on March 18, 1930, the second of three sons to Thomas Carlyle Hubbard and Annie Laurie Lynes Hubbard. His parents and his brothers, Raymond Carter Hubbard and William Aubrey Hubbard, preceded him in death.
Mr. Hubbard spent most of his childhood and adult life in the Levy-Limehouse community of Jasper County, SC, where he and his late wife, Josephine Tanner Hubbard (1934-2015), raised their four children and cherished their extended family. He is survived in loving memory by Emeriel (Em) Hubbard, Jr. (Brenda), Keith Hubbard (Laurie Davis), Cindy Lawson (Todd), and Laurie Crosby (Ricky), 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
After graduating from Hardeeville (SC) High School in 1949, he went to work at the Savannah Sugar Refinery and maintained that employment until his retirement. He took great pride in farming his vegetable garden and also found much happiness when boating in local waterways in search of shrimp, crabs, oysters, and fish.
Mr. Hubbard was a member of Maye River Baptist Church and will be buried in the churchyard beside his wife and near the graves of several generations of immediate family members and ancestors at a private service on Friday, August 28th. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the general fund of Maye River Baptist Church, 3507 Okatie Highway, Okatie, SC 29909.
