Bobby D Malphrus

Mr. Bobby D. Malphrus, age 91, of Ridgeland passed away peacefully at home after a short illness on July 3, 2019.  Bobby was born on August 29, 1927 in Ridgeland.  He was the son of the late Herman Malphrus and Margaret (Maggie) Strong Malphrus.  Bobby married his grammar school sweetheart, Leila Carroll, on May 14, 1946. They were faithfully devoted to each other for over 73 years.  

Bobby served his country in the Merchant Marines during World War II.  After the war he spent a great portion of his life farming, and retired as assistant manager from Good Hope Plantation after 25 years.  He owned and operated Old House Produce Market and helped maintain Malphrus Oaks Plantation for many years.  He was well known and loved by many in the Ridgeland community.

Bobby was an active member of Ridgeland Advent Christian Church for over 70 years.  Bobby loved fishing and hunting and spent much of his leisure time on the water or in a deer stand.

He was predeceased by his parents, four sisters, Helen Sandretto, Katie Sue Arnett, Betty Taylor, and Shirley Bowers, and three brothers, Davant Malphrus, Francis Malphrus McManus, and Ralph Malphrus.

Bobby is survived by his wife Leila and two sons, Bobby Dale Malphrus and Randy (Debra Q.) Malphrus, three grandchildren, Robyn (Johnny) Wood, Brad (Crystal) Malphrus, and Marie (Chris) Buck, and 10 great grandchildren.   He is also survived by five siblings, Margie Hatchell, Sandra Breland, Linda Sims, Herman (Geneva) Malphrus and Donnie (Judy) Malphrus and a host of nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Friday, July 5, 2019 at Vaigneur Funeral Home, 6802 Tillman Rd, Ridgeland, SC. 

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Vaigneur Funeral Home, with burial following in Ridgeland Cemetery.
