Violet (Atkins) Hansen

     Violet Atkins Hansen, 80, of Okatie, SC passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. Ms. Hansen was born June 5, 1937 in Jacksonville, FL to the late Mr. and Mrs. Loring C.  and Cortitecllo Tuten Atkins.

     Ms. Hansen graduated from Ridgeland High School and received her nursing degree from the St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Savannah, GA.  After graduation, she worked at Hampton Regional Hospital in Hampton, SC for several years, before moving to Ohio.  She later moved back to the Lowcountry and worked for the Telfair Women’s Hospital in Savannah, GA in labor and delivery.  When the hospital closed she continued her career with Candler hospital in Savannah, GA in labor and delivery, until she moved into nursing administration and later retired.  After retirement she enjoyed her time relaxing and being with her family.  She was a member of Okatee Baptist Church, and was a loving sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

     Ms. Hansen is survived by one son, Allen Hansen (Crystal); one daughter, Trish Melton (Lawrence); one sister, Sonja Woods; five grandchildren, Ray Proctor (Charlotte), Lawrence Melton, Jr. (Julie), Jennifer Melton (Rob), Jessica Gunn (Cameron) and Joshua Hansen (Lauren); and four great grandchildren, Davis Proctor, and Jackson, Emily and Ethan Melton. She was predeceased by two brothers.

     The family will receive friends at 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Okatee Baptist Church,5467 N. Okatie Highway, Ridgeland, SC, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 pm.
