Mitchel D “Papa Mike” Tilton, 75, of Hardeeville left his earthly bonds on April 13, 2019 to be with his savior in Heaven. He was born in the Highhill Community of Florence County, SC on February 4, 1944 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Marion and Ethel Ard Tilton. He was the youngest of their 11 children.
Mr. Tilton retired from the US Army as a SGT 1st Class after proudly serving his country. During his career he served in the Republic of Vietnam where he was wounded in battle and received the Purple Heart. He was also awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with 2 bronze stars, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Humanitarian Service medal along with several other accolades. He was a true Patriot.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife “Sweet Pea”, Cecelia Tilton of over 30 years whom he loved to dote on, two daughters, Stephanie Tilton (Jerry); Tara Meglan (Joe), one son, John M. “Shannon” Prosser (Allana), seven grandchildren, Drew Meglan, Ashton Prosser, Gracie Meglan, Abbi Prosser, Brady Meglan, Jack Prosser, Gavin Meglan, and one brother Jim Tilton
He was a loving brother, father and grandfather. Like the patriot he was for his country, he served his wife, his children, and his grandchildren well, giving his all and loving them to his dying day. He lived a great life.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday April 17, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary Street, Beaufort, SC 29902. A visitation will be held on Tuesday April 16, 2019 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Vaigneur Funeral Home, 6802 Tillman Road, Ridgeland, SC 29936
