Samuel Leroy Drew, Sr passed away unexpectedly on July 18, 2019 in Hardeeville, SC due to an injury secondary to health issues. Leroy was born on January 19, 1944 in Rocky Mount, NC to Walter H. and Margaret Turner Drew.
He began his career in the Army National Guard working in maintenance before transferring to a position as cook, where he retired after 28 years of honorable service. During his military service he owned and operated several businesses, including Drew’s Delivery for Sears and was the owner/operator of Drew’s Candy Sales. For 33 years, he was fondly known as “the candy man”. He was an active member of his community and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Anyone that knew him, knows that his greatest passion was his family and serving God. He never met a stranger and treated everyone like family. From the Guard he cultivated his love of cooking and was always offering a meal to anyone that walked though his door. Leroy enjoyed many outdoor activities including fishing and being on the river.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kay Drew, the love of his life for almost 50 years; two sons, Lee Drew and Jamie Drew (Abby); one daughter, Lisa Lowther (Barry); one daughter-in-law, Bonnie Drew; nine grandchildren, Dustin, Brianna, Barry, Chandler, Emily, Hunter, Reganne, Ava, Caleb; one great-grandson, Wolf; two sisters, Polly Horton, Carol Watson; and many others whom he was happy to claim as his own.
Mr. Drew was predeceased by his parents, 3 brothers and youngest son, Jason Drew.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Vaigneur Funeral Home, 6802 Tillman Road, Ridgeland, SC.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 10:00am at Vaigneur Funeral Home Chapel, 6802 Tillman Road, Ridgeland, SC, with burial to follow in Ridgeland Cemetery.
