James Routh Mixson, Jr, 73, of Ridgeland, SC passed Thursday, November 7, 2019 at his home. Jimmy was born in Ridgeland, SC on January 19, 1946 to Mr. James Routh and Mrs. Gladys Peeples Mixson.
Mr. Mixson was a graduate of Ridgeland High School Class of 1965. He was member of Ridgeland Baptist Church and worked for the Town of Ridgeland for 44 years, as the water and wastewater superintendent. He was a member of American Masonic Lodge #98 in Ridgeland, SC since 1972 and was a Past Master. Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing. He coached little league football and baseball for several years, and played softball for over 35 years for the Ridgeland J.C.’s and Beaufort Men’s City League. His passion for flying remote control airplanes was evident in his flying and teaching others the art of remote-control airplanes since 1980. He was a founding and charter member of the Jasper County Radio Control Club and the head grounds keeper for the club’s grass runway. Jimmy was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. All those who knew him, knew how patient he was.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Gladys Mixson; three sons, Chris Mixson (Christy), James Mixson, III and Josh Mixson; two brothers, Michael Mixson and Robert Mixson (Judie); three sisters, Kathryn Mixson Clements, Marcia Mixson Martinez (Albert) and Rosemary Mixson Taylor (Johnny); two grandchildren, Brooke Mixson Kaufmann (Levi) and Caleb Mixson; two great grandchildren, Clayton and Jameson Kaufmann, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, James Routh Mixson, Sr; wife of 41 years, Judy Mixson and a nephew, Jerry Balkcom.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 -8:00 PM on Friday, November 8, 2019 at Vaigneur Funeral Home, 6802 Tillman Road, Ridgeland, SC. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM, on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Sand Hill Cemetery, 15850 Pocotaligo Road, Varnville, S.C. 29944.
