Ellen Malphrus Langford

Ms. Ellen Malphrus Langford, 90, of Ridgeland, SC passed away Monday, April 15, 2019 very peacefully in the comfort of her home. She was born January 13, 1929 in Ridgeland, SC to the late French R. and Nona P. Malphrus. She is pre-deceased by her husband John E. Langford, Jr., and two siblings, Louise Malphrus Baker and French Collins Malphrus.

She is survived by her two sons, John E. Langford, III and H. Timothy Langford (Julie); three siblings, Bertie Woods, Margaret Davis (Coleman), and Gen Malphrus (Kay); four Grandchildren, Jason Langford (Jeremy), Haley Langford, Rachel Langford, and Meghan Scanlon (Franklin); 5 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Ms. Ellen was a member of Ridgeland Baptist Church, retired owner of Langford’s Realty (est. 1979), co-owner/operator of Langford’s Pharmacy in Ridgeland for 31 years with her husband John, and a member of Ridgeland Town Council for 28 consecutive years. She was extremely proud and had a tremendous gratitude to the Town of Ridgeland who dedicated one of the city parks to her in recognition of her service. The “Ellen M. Langford Square” is located on the corner of Main St. and Jacob Smart Blvd. and is marked by a wonderful inlaid granite monument.

She graduated from Draughn’s Business College in Columbia, SC, served as President of The Business and Professional Women’s Club and as President of the Ridgeland PTA. She was an Honorary Lifetime Member of The South Carolina PTA and taught Kindergarten in Ridgeland. She loved gardening, being involved in her community, and spending time with her family. Her family was her pride and joy. She loved everyone unconditionally, and her life was fully dedicated to the Lord.

Funeral services will be held on Monday April 22, 2019 at 3:00 pm at Ridgeland Baptist Church, 1448 Grays Hwy, Ridgeland, SC 29936, with a visitation 1 hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow the funeral service in Great Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery, 9009 Tarboro Road, Ridgeland, SC 29936
