Edward Donald Lambertsen, 94, passed away on August 14, 2017 in Hardeeville, South Carolina.  He was born in Plainfield, New Jersey on August 23, 1922 to the late James and Theresa Lambertsen. He was known by most of his friends and family as, Ed. He was the grandson of immigrants, a child of the depression, a World War II veteran and a member of the greatest generation.

He attended West Chester State University on a basketball scholarship, where he was captain of the team before enlisting in the Navy in 1943.  He spent 3 years in the Navy and was honorably discharged at the end of the war.  He married Joyce Larson, of Minot, North Dakota in 1946.  He finished his undergraduate degree and earned his Master’s Degree at Temple University. 

Joyce and Ed raised three sons: Edward, Steven and Gary.  As a family, they enjoyed spending time on Cedar Bonnet Island in New Jersey.  Ed was an avid boater and fisherman. Ed had a career as a Physical Education teacher in the South Orange-Maplewood School System.  Outside of school, Ed spent his life helping others. 

Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce and his son, Edward. He is survived by his son, Steven of Tillman, SC; his son, Gary and wife, Rosemarie of Sneads Ferry, NC; sister-in-law, Louise Lambertsen of Manahawkin, NJ; granddaughter Jaclyn Hudgins and husband, William of Sneads Ferry, NC; grandson James Lambertsen and wife, Courtney of Fayetteville, NC; great-grandchildren Will, Heidi, Lucas and Larsen.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Edward’s memory to Tillman Baptist Church: 66 Cotton Hill Road, PO Box 156, Tillman, SC 29943 or to Scotch Plains Baptist Church: 333 Park Avenue, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076.  Funeral services will be held at 9am on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Scotch Plains Baptist Church.
