Betty Horton Reid

Mrs. Betty Louise Horton White Reid, 85, of Ridgeland SC passed away on January 20, 2018, at the Ridgeland Nursing Center, Ridgeland SC.  She was born on October 24, 1932 in Grays SC, to the late John and Beulah Horton. 

Mrs. Reid attended North Greenville College and later graduated from Furman University.  She was employed with the Civil Service.  During her career she served over seas in Madrid Spain.  After her duty over seas was complete she returned to Biloxi, MS and continued her service until retirement.  While in Biloxi, she attended Emmanuel Baptist Church where she met and married her late husband William “Bill” Reid.  They were member of Gideons International and served faithfully for many years.  She and Bill returned to Grays SC in 2006 and lived there until moving to Ridgeland SC. While in Grays SC, they attended Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Reid, is a special niece, Kay Horton and a host of other nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, two stepsons; Jim Reid (Sarakay) and Timothy Reid (Gina), two Stepdaughters; Deborah Beall (Gerald) and Victoria Gonzalas; and two special friends Rudy and Leighann Cleland.  Predeceasing her in death was six brothers; Frampton, Jesse, Marvin, Charlie, Robert, and Dodson Horton, six sisters; Ann Williams, Pearl Youmans, Lois Horton, Eunice Cook, Azlene Teachey and Janie Mixon, and one stepdaughter Janice Warren.  She was also predeceased by her husband Ray White. 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday January 24, 2018 at 11:00am at Vaigneur Funeral Home, 6802 Tillman Road, Ridgeland SC., with a visitation from 10:00am until the hour of the service.  Interment will follow in the Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort SC, 1601 Boundary Street, Beaufort SC.
