Gwendolyn Boyd

Laura Gwendolyn Fender Boyd, 79, of Lady’s Island SC, passed away on July 13, 2017 at National Health Care, Bluffton, after a prolonged illness.  She was born in Charleston SC on September 5, 1937 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Norman and Minnie Lee (Malphrus) Fender.

Mrs. Boyd graduated from the Warren-Candler School of Nursing, and later attended Armstrong State University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.  She had extensive career in nursing and worked for several medical facilities, before retiring from Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Gardening was one of her favorite pastimes along with tending to her flowers.  She was a loving sister, mother, and grandmother.

Survivors include two daughters; Kristen Meador, and Beth Boyd, two brothers; Sherwood Fender (Martha) and David Boyles, one sister; Phoebie Ferguson; Three grandchildren; Clayton Rosenbaum, Erica Meador, and Luke Newton, and many nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at 3:00pm at Vaigneur Funeral Home, 6802 Tillman Road, Ridgeland SC 29936, with a  visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Great Swamp Cemetery, 9009 Tarboro Road, following the service.
