Dorothy Lee (Tuten) Malphrus

Dorothy Lee Tuten Malphrus, 85, of Ridgeland, SC passed away Monday, July 31, 2017, at her home. Dorothy was born February 4, 1932, in Grays, SC to the late John Gary and Katie Lou Darieng Tuten Sr. At the age of 15 Dorothy married the one and only love of her life, Shuford E. Malphrus Sr., and they enjoyed 55 wonderful years together. Dorothy lived life to the fullest in every way possible. She delighted in her family and took joy in even the smallest of God’s creations. An avid bowler and golfer, Mrs. Malphrus traveled all over the United States playing in various tournaments and programs. Her other favorite activity was saltwater fishing, and she could often be found in the Beaufort River chasing her next prize catch.  Mrs. Malphrus was employed for over 20 years at Beaufort Baptist Child Enrichment Center in the infant nursery. In later years Dorothy spent as much time as possible enjoying her gardens, the birds and butterflies, and her family.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Phyllis Buckley, Darlene Bollack (Jerry Nadeau), Lynn Westberry (Johnny), Susan Kopanski (Tony), Shuford E. “Eddie” Malphrus Jr. (Fiancée, Wendy); 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; sister in law and best friend, Betty Tuten, and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Malphrus was preceded in death by her loving husband; her beloved brother, Randall A. Tuten, and sister Maggie Padgett.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 4, 2017, at Vaigneur Funeral Home, 6802 Tillman Road, Ridgeland, SC. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Great Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery, 9009 Tarboro Road, Ridgeland, SC.
