Alene Virginia (Cleland) Harvey

     Alene Virginia Cleland Harvey, 83, of Ridgeland, SC passed away March 27, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, GA.  Ms. Harvey was born July 9, 1933 in Ridgeland to the late Jesse and Ida Lee Woods Cleland.

     Ms. Harvey was a member of Gillisonville Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years.  She was also part of the group responsible for reopening the church in 1947, after years of the church not holding regular services.  Ms. Harvey was always a very humble and loving person.  She read her Bible daily and even though she endured many tragedies in her lifetime, she held firm to her faith.  She also worked at Holiday Ware and later retired from the South Carolina Department of Social Services in Ridgeland, SC.

     Ms. Harvey is survived by her brother, Gene Cleland (Janice), her sister, Joyce Price (Jimmy), and two grandsons Sean and Jonathan Horton. She was predeceased by her three children.

     A Homegoing service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Gillisonville Baptist Church, 10158 Grays Highway, Ridgeland, SC, with burial following in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 pm, at the church. 

     Family will be provided lunch at 12:00 pm in the church social hall.
